Corporate Performance Management (CPM, also refered to as Business Performance Management BPM) is a very actual subject for many organizations. After the success encountered by many measurement-management methodologies such as Kaplan an Norton's balanced scorecards, six sigma and other "running by the numbers" methods, many companies are eager to implement an effective CPM. "Excellent firms don't believe in excellence - only in constant improvement and constant change." Tom Peters A dashboard is often used as a metaphor for a CPM Portal, where all the key metrics of the business are available at one glance. Dashboards are often the key selling point of many vendors. They are web-based, interactive and contain a lot of data in a small space. Unfortunately, a lot of companies end up wasting money on pointless gauges, steering wheels and traffic signs which display irrelevant data in a unreadable format. CPM uses not only data, but metrics which reflect a very specific aspect of the company's business. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) eg are metrics enhanced with additional information, such as a status, a goal and a trend. Readability can be enhanced using indicators. It is critical to keep the definitions easily maintainable and consistent. The relevant metrics will evolve over time, following the changes in the corporate strategy. They will need different data, on a more detailed basis. A prerequisite to a meaningful CPM is a successful Data Warehouse project. If the process of collecting and processing data is not optimized so that it runs in an automated and trustworthy way, business executives will be struggling with spreadsheets, reporting manually data on forms and wasting time fixing data inconsistencies. Also, CPM is not a project you do once, nor a product. It is a methodology you implement and keep doing. CPM is a way to utilize the data contained in your Data Warehouse and convert it into cash. You keep your focus on the business, the strategy and the metrics - we handle the underlying data in a professional way. CIS will help you organizing and automating your data flows to support your CPM.
"Successful leaders don't start out asking, "What do I want to do?" They ask, "What needs to be done?" Then they ask, "Of those things that would make a difference, which are right for me?"" Peter Drucker We believe that by enhancing your data flow, and the spread of the information within your business, not only will your users be empowered to make the right decisions, but your business will also become more flexible and steerable.
